prove you're human

Hey, my name is Katie. I write different kinds of things and make zines and books. You may have come to this blog from my website The La-La Theory. If not, that's where you can go to read some of my work. This place here is where I post updates on writing I've published and events I'm participating in, plus whatever else I feel like talking about, which increasingly includes a lot of nonsense. my spleen.

I just need this on my blog so I can refer to it when I can actually process the complex and gross feelings I have for this situation aka the idea of riot grrrl as something you can buy off the rack / as something to be capitalized upon / as something worthy of being capitalized upon / faux feminist slash questionably feminist marketing strategies a la we won’t say anything so you will just naturally assume we’re right strategies / third wave white feminist grunge shoppables without the actual feminism????????
give us your money and we’ll give you some fake politics
let us make money off of a really white ass feminism 101 movement and be cool at the same time
riot grrrl isn’t something you just put on like a tshirt, it’s not something you put on with a pair of velvet boots. that is some half assed bullshit. that is some Jay Z trying to sell Occupy Wall Street level of bullshit. i’m not into it.
it’s too complicated. i just wanted to look at some fucking shoes. my god.

Haha, yeah, what this person said. But oh my gosh WOW, riot grrrl is being exploited by retailers in the year TWO THOUSAND AND TWELVE? It’s like I don’t even need to feel sad that my youth has ended, because I look out the window and it’s 1994.

I totally get the outrage, but… EVERYTHING in our culture is exploited for profit. If we look back, I’m sure it was then...

Annnnd this is why social movements that don’t fully commit themselves to anti-capitalist struggle are useless.
